Sleep More, Worry Less

Digestacure With so much to get done, people often find themselves asking for more hours in a day. However, even if that were somehow possible, it is safe to say that many people would still not allocate a sufficient amount of time for sleep. Sleep is usually the first thing people sacrifice when they are busy because it is easy to feel like there are better, more productive ways of spending time. In reality, lack of sleep decreases a person’s personal productivity level because the body cannot recover or recharge at night with only a few hours of sleep.

Many people live in a constant state of sleep deprivation that is perpetuated by stimulants like caffeine. If the total number of hours of sleep lost each night gets to high, the human body loses its ability to perform essential health functions. One example of this is maintaining a healthy immune system. If a body cannot rest, it cannot repair or strengthen the immune system, leaving an individual more susceptible to illness. Sleep also allows the body to repair bone and muscle, essential parts of any healing or development process that are jeopardized by lack of sleep.

In addition to physical consequences, sleep deprivation can affect a person’s mental health as well. No matter how people try to justify lack of sleep by saying they have “gotten used to” sleeping only a few hours a night, studies have shown that the human body never fully adapts to getting less sleep than it needs. Lack of sleep decreases the cognitive capacity of the brain, meaning an individual is not able to think as clearly and may have difficulty making decisions. Getting adequate sleep helps people stay healthy simply by increasing coherence, which allows them to make better decisions.
